How To Shop Smart For Clothes

Cheap Clothes

You find such a wide range of prices when you are shopping for clothing. It is difficult to know if you are really getting a bargain or the item is just made cheaply. Sometimes you find really cheaply made clothing selling for unreal prices also. I just read a really great article in Woman’s Day magazine about how to tell whether the clothes you are buying are well-made. Here is a summary of what the article said:

Eye the pattern: Look at the fabric to see if the patterns line up at the seams. If the pattern is matched unevenly that tells you the clothing is poorly made.

How To Cure A Hangover

Hangover Tips

Here are some time honored cures and prevention tips I found in our local paper:

1. Use caution: If you’re having a holiday party, designate a bartender who can keep an eye on how much everyone is drinking and avoid over-serving guest, the Distilled Spririts Council of the United States recommends. Providing food and nonalcoholic options for party goers also is a good idea.

2. Try an ounce of prevention: Eating almonds or peanut butter before drinking is thought to prevent intoxication, according to Health991.com. The site also advises that evening primrose oil and prickly pear cactus extract help prevent hangovers.

Candle Wax Removal

I know so many people who have ruined carpets and tables trying to get candle wax off of them. Graham Haley of Haley’s Hints has a tried and true method for removing candle wax. First you get a paper towel and fold it in half. Then heat your iron to medium heat. Cover the candle wax stain with the paper towel. Press the iron to the towel and leave for a few seconds, then move it around the paper towel pressing each spot for a few seconds until all candle wax has been absorbed.

Best Cure For Depression

Our paper had a little blurb from Drs. Mike Roizen and Mehmet Oz and I thought it would be helpful. You have probably heard about the relationship between exercise and depression - exercise can help lessen depression. Well, it turns out that your mood can lift with as little as 30 minutes of exercise.

Here is what the article said to do: Walk at a moderate pace, 60 percent to 70 percent of your maximum heart rate for 30 minutes. For the average 55-year old, that’s about 100 heartbeats per minute.

Learn How To Shoot A Basketball

I never knew there was a particular way to do this until one of my kids told me they learned the proper way to shoot a basketball in P.E. class at school. I just figured you aimed and threw the ball. So here it is coming to you from How To Do Things.

1. Hold the ball in your dominant hand with elbow directly underneath. Your non-dominant is held beside the ball and just guides it.

How To Spend Less Dining Out

Written by admin on November 21st, 2008 in save money.

Everyone’s looking to save money these days, but it is still fun to go out to eat. There are a few ways you can shave money off your bill.

Enjoy the freebies - Many places will give you bread, chips, or crackers for free. Even if you or your kids fill up on them you can take your meal home and make another meal out it.

Drink water - Don’t order the fancy water or soda and you can save a few dollars per person on the bill. Your children will protest violently but tell them it is better than not eating out at all.

Hummingbird Food Sugar Ratio

I love to see the hummingbirds when they come. They are great entertainment. I have had problems though with bees and wasps at my feeder. I saw an article about how to get rid of bees and wasps and wanted to pass on the information. I have also had problems with racoons drinking all the sugar water out of the feeder at night.
