As a business owner, one of your highest priorities — and biggest worries — is how to attract new business.  If you sell products, your task is made easier by the fact that your customers can actually see and touch what they are going to buy, and without too much effort they know how they will benefit from buying your product.

How To Have Healthy Eyes

Relief For Dry Eyes

Computer usage is hard on our eyes. If you sit at your computer for any length of time you will often find yourself feeling my eyes are dry. I found these valuable tips in an article from our local paper on how to have healthy eyes.

Readjust your computer so that your eyes look down. Looking down on the screen helps eliminate glare. Adjust the brightness and contrast to increase readability.

Refocus your eyes on something far away for about 30 seconds every 15 minutes.

How To Do Balance Exercises

Exercises For Improving Balance

I just saw this great tip in Parade Magazine about improving your balance through balance exercise. My yoga teacher always told me balance is something that has to be practiced otherwise you will lose some of your ability to balance. Now this article quotes research that suggests improving your balance is one the best ways to prevent fractures. How about that. Apparently, doctors found in a large scale study done in Sweden that impaired balace tripled risk of hip fractures in older patients. It also doubled the risk of other fractures. The researchers calculated that 37% of all hip fractues could be prevented if patients had better balance.

How To Stand Up To Debt Collectors

How To Negotiate With Debt Collectors

Found a really good article in Parade Magazine on how to stand up to debt collectors. Here is the essence of the advice:

Don’t reveal personal information - Debt collectors don’t care anything about you and you are not obliged to tell them your place of employment, the name of your bank, or your checking-account number. Stay calm and focused when you speak to them. Ask for details of the debt and written proof of the collector’s claim. Remember you are not talking directly to the company with whom you ran up the debt but rather to a debt collector trying to earn pennies on the dollar.

According to the Labor Department’s Employment and Training Administration unemployment statistics the average weekly State Unemployment check is only $299.00 while an average family’s weekly expenses may 2 to 3 times that high. Could you pay your bills on $299.00 per week?

How To Take Steps Toward Early Retirement

Written by admin on September 10th, 2008 in Early Retirement.

Work Towards Retiring Early

Do you want to retire early? Here are some quick steps you can take toward furthering your goal toward early retirement. First, you have got to save for it. Savings are probably the most important component. If you need to increase your savings consider paying off credit cards, eating out less and buying used whenever it makes sense. Buying items on EBay can save a great deal of money.

Second, look at your investments. If you’ve got it all in CD’s you’re not making enough money off your money. Check out mutual funds and see which one would work for you.

A friend of mine was unscrewing a chandelier bulb from an old fixture and the bulb shattered. She told me that she read about using an uncooked potato to remove a broken bulb that was still in the socket. I looked around and saw the trick on some other sites but since this is a “How To” site, I want to have it here. So…

First of all - How NOT to get electrocuted. Before you do anything TURN OFF THE ELECTRIC POWER!!!!! If you can’t figure out which circuit the fixture is on, turn off ALL the circuits. I know it is a big pain to reset all the clocks, but better to be spending time resetting clocks than be out of time altogether because you are dead. See my point?
